A businessman flashed his £10,000 watch and the keys to his Porsche 911 - in a bid to buy cigarettes.

Kiron Haque, who owns a chain of Indian restaurants in Medway and Maidstone pulled the stunt after he was asked to show his ID in a Morrisons store in Walderslade.

The 36-year-old, who owns the Spice Fusion chain which has outlets across Kent, was turned away by three stunned members of staff.

Mr Haque, a married father-of-two, said: "I pulled out my keys and showed my watch and said, 'Do you think a 16-year-old would drive around in a Porsche 911 or have a £10,000 Breitling watch?'

"I may not look 36 but I at least look out of my mid-20s. It was ridiculous. I employ about 70 people and they've had a good laugh about it."

He added: "One of the ladies behind the counter had even eaten in one of my restaurants. I told her I owned it, but they thought I was trying it on.

"I walked out thinking I would take it as a compliment."

A Morrisons spokesman said: "We have a strict policy that all our staff selling cigarettes should ask for identification from any customers who look under 25.

"We are proud of how vigilant our employees are in this regard. We hope Mr Haque takes it as a compliment."
