Kent have reappointed Rob Key as club captain for another year.

A decision was made at Tuesday night’s general committee meeting to make Key skipper for the sixth successive year.

The 32-year-old, who took over the reins from David Fulton at the end of the 2006 season, has played 510 games for the county and will lead the club into 2012 looking to improve on a season that saw Kent finish second bottom in LV= County Championship Division Two.

Kent’s chief executive, Jamie Clifford, said: “It came at the end of a process that looked at the way things have gone this year.

"We spent a lot of time speaking with Rob about where he was at and the club believe his appointment is the right way to go forward. Given Rob’s experience over many years, we know what he’ll do and how he will do it.”

Key, who has just undergone surgery on a troublesome wrist injury, said: “It continues to be a great privilege to lead the club on the field. Now I have had my wrist operation – which seems to have gone well – I am determined that we work hard to ensure 2012 is as successful as possible.

“I look forward to working with all our players on the challenges that lie ahead.”

A decision is yet to be made on who will take on the role of vice-captain.
