Roof destroyed by blaze

A FIRE ripped through an unused building in east Kent yesterday (Wednesday) morning.

Firefighters from Eastry, Canterbury, Sandwich and Deal were called to Mill Lane, Eastry, at 4.47am and used breathing apparatus and hose reel jets to battle the blaze.

By 5.39, crews were inside the building and the all-clear was given at 6.44pm.

Eighty per cent of the building’s roof was destroyed and adjoining houses were left smokelogged.

No one was injured or had to be rescued.
