Second suspect held after man is shot dead

POLICE investigating the murder of a man who was shot in the head have arrested a second man in connection with the killing.

A 30-year-old man was arrested at his home in Orpington on Monday afternoon, following the murder of 29-year-old car repairer Jon Bartlett in Chislehurst on Friday evening. The suspect is currently in custody at a south London police station.

Detectives are also questioning a man in his early 20s who was arrested earlier. He is also in custody at a south London police station.

Mr Bartlett's body was found on common ground near School Road, Chislehurst, at about 7.45pm on Friday. He lived in Mottingham, was unmarried.

Police say he was pronounced dead at the scene. A post mortem exmanination held at the Princess Royal University Hospital, Farnborough, on Saturday, determined cause of death as a gunshot wound to the head.

Det Ch Insp Jill Bailey, of the Metropolitan police's specialist crime directorate, said: "We need to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious between 6pm and 8pm on Friday in School Lane, Chislehurst,near to the common."
