Show-off driver killed woman pedestrian

A YOUNG business entrepreneur killed an elderly woman out walking her dog as he showed off his high performance car to a friend, Maidstone Crown Court heard.

Adam Harris, 24, had overtaken several vehicles at speed in his Toyota MR2 turbo car before losing control on a bend at about 80mph at Dymchurch, near Hythe.

The car hit the kerb, mounted the pavement and collided with a telegraph pole. It then spun 90 degrees before striking Gwendoline Addy from behind and throwing her 20m into a garden. Mrs Addy, 74, of Marine Avenue, Dymchurch, and her dog died instantly. Both Harris and his passenger escaped injury.

Harris, a managing director of a small pharmaceutical company was jailed for four years. He was also banned for six years after the judge said his driving had been “absolutely outrageous”.

Harris, formerly of Dunes Road, Greatstone, near New Romney, now of London Road, Dover, admitted causing death by dangerous driving.
