Spinning a web of protest against freight depot plan

THE campaign against the KIG road-rail depot has spread across the Internet.

Opponents of the plans have set up professional-looking websites to keep residents updated and co-ordinate their protests.

The key site is StopKIG, which is supported by a group of 12 parish councils that all oppose the plan, including details for residents who want to join the fight.

Users of the social networking site Facebook have also set up informal online petitions and discussion groups in protest against the plans.

They include Save Our Bearsted which has more than 600 members, and Say No To KIG. You will have to sign up to Facebook to view these pages.

Two online petitions have been created. Almost 3,000 people used the Downing Street website to call on the Prime Minister for the plans to be rejected.

More than 230 people have signed a petition on the website www.petitionthem.com.

Maidstone council has set up a KIG section on its website with links to the full plan and an FAQ about how the council will make its decision.
