Stalker made suggestive remarks to women

A 28-year-old man who stalked young women in a town centre has been ordered to undergo mental-health treatment.

Colin Johnson followed the women, waited outside their places of work in Whitstable, and made suggestive remarks to them.

Police discovered he also kept a list of the names of 50 women in which he rated each one according to “sexiness, body and sex".

Johnson, of Regent Street, Whitstable, appeared for sentence at Canterbury Magistrates Court having admitted two counts of harassment.

Ruth Dalziell, prosecuting, told the court that both women the charges related to worked in town centre shops.

“He would wait outside the shops and then approach them and made suggestive remarks,” Mrs Dalziell said. “Other times he would stare at them.”

Johnson admitted fantasising about the women and said he had taken photographs of some of them. On one occasion he relieved himself on a beach while staring at two women.

One of Johnson’s victims said in a statement: “Every time I see him I feel physically sick.” Another said: “I do not want him anywhere near me.”

Paul Shingleton, defending, said Johnson had waited 16 weeks in custody for his sentencing.

He added: “His actions were not ones of malevolence or maliciousness, but were more like those of a pre-pubescent schoolboy.

“He has a developmental disorder. These were the actions of a boy, not a man.”

Magistrates ordered Johnson to complete a 12-month community supervision order with a requirement that he undergoes mental treatment.
