Performers Jane Danes and Philip Shaw reunite as the leads in the forthcoming Thanet production of Gypsy at the Granville Theatre, Ramsgate in October.

They last appeared together in East Kent Productions’ version of Hello Dolly at the Theatre Royal Margate and Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury.

The musical tale is based on the memoirs of stripper Gypsy Rose Lee.

Jane and Philip play stage mother Mama Rose and former stage agent Herbie as they promote Rose’s daughters and supporting troupe of child performers in a tour across the western states of America during the 1930s.

Stephen Sondheim and Jule Styne’s hit songs include Together Wherever We Go, You’ll Never Get Away From Me, Let Me Entertain You and the show-stopping hit Everything’s Coming Up Roses.

Producer Michael Wheatley-Ward, who secured special permission for this production from the publishers in New York, said: “Rehearsals under the direction of Matthew Danes are going well and the 25-strong company is looking forward to the VIP opening night on Wednesday, October 8, when local dignitaries will attend.

“For those members of the public who would also like to walk on the red carpet, tickets are available.”

The production, which is featured in the Canterbury Festival, runs from Wednesday, October 8 until Saturday, October 11, at 7.30pm with an additional matinee performance at 2.30pm on the Saturday.

Tickets from £9 and special family tickets are available from the Granville Theatre box office on 01843 591750
