The number of Kent teenagers having an abortion has nose-dived.

Around 480 under-18s had terminations in the county last year - which is down by about 100 on the previous year.

Government statistics out today show there were 5,400 Kent abortions in 2011.

That is around 200 fewer than the number of terminations in 2010.

However, the Department of Health said it is "very concerned" about the number of teenagers across Britain having multiple abortions.

NHS figures show three girls in England and Wales - with a history of at least seven terminations - recieved a further abortion in 2010.

The data, released under the Freedom of Information Act, revealed 14 more girls were on their fifth termination.

Pro-life campaigners claim it shows young women are being "let down in an appalling way".
