Teen threatens to jump onto Rainham railway tracks

Trains from Rainham were suspended this morning after a teenager threatened to jump from a railway bridge.

British Transport Police were called to the bridge in Otterham Quay Lane at around 6.30am to reports a 19-year-old from Gillingham was saying he would jump.

All trains going into and out of Rainham were suspended for almost two hours while police spoke to the man.

A spokesman for the transport police said: "There was a suicidal man on the bridge, who has a history of this.

"He also had what looked like a self-inflicted knife wound.

"Trains were stopped, which was a huge problem and there was a back up.

"The man was removed from the bridge and is now with the ambulance services."

Trains started running through the station again at around 8.30am.
