Teenager rides to point-to-point victory

THE East Sussex and Romney Marsh Hunt held their point-to-point meeting on Sunday at Castfield.

The race saw 19-year-old Charlotte Grissell ride Kingsun to victory in a six-strong field.

Kingsun, owned by Charlotte’s mother and trained by her aunt Di Grisselll, had raced several times without distinction in Ireland but has been in better form in England.

Phil York rode another winner when he claimed victory in the Restricted on Johnny Weatherby’s horse Peppershot.

York looked set for a double win when he led the Confined on Montanel but he was unseated at the last fence, allowing Phillip Hall to claim victory on Little Worsell.

The Men’s Open was won by odds-on favourite Cape Stormer, who won easily on the firm ground.

The Old Surrey Burstow & West Kent Hunt will hold a point-to-point meeting at Penshurst on Saturday.

The first proper race starts at 2pm, with pony racing from 12.45pm onwards. Entrance will cost £25 per car.
