Kent set for warmest October day in seven years

by Ismail Khwaja

Kent could be set for the warmest day in October in seven years, as forecasters predict temperatures as high as 24C on Wednesday.

According to the Met Office, “very warm air” will head from the south over the coming days and heat up the county.

It would mean the hottest recorded temperature since Gravesend reached almost 30 degrees in 2011.

Helen Roberts, Senior Operational Meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “It’s almost 10C above average.

"The average at this time of year is 15C in Kent. Mid-twenties is not the norm.

"This is significantly above average, so it is on the unusual side but not unprecedented.”

While it isn’t typical weather for this time of year, it’s considered as “natural variability” and these temperature changes are expected to become more frequent.

As for the rest of the week, temperatures are due to dip but could rise again by the weekend – close to the mid-20s.
