Kent firemen have rescued a woman from a burning car this morning after three separate crashes on the same road.

The woman, thought to be aged 20, was trapped inside her VW Golf after it crashed into a lorry.

It happened just before 9.30am at the Stockbury roundabout on the A249 and the road was closed.

She has been taken to hospital.

Shortly before that another accident took place just before the speed camera near the junction with Scragged Oak Road.

Police said a Vauxhall Meriva collided with a grey Peugeot 206, and one person sustained minor injuries.

A 8.45am, also on the Maidstone-bound carriageway, there had been an earlier crash between Detling and Jade’s Crossing.

Two vehicles collided – a white ford transit and a VW Polo. No one was injured.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "Police are advising drivers to find an alternate route to the A249 where possible between the Stockbury roundabout and Maidstone, as there is significant congestion in the area."
