Iggy the Iguandon celebrates Maidstone United’s FA Cup fourth round win against Ipswich Town

A town’s famous dinosaur statue joined in the celebrations after its football team secured a historic win.

Iggy the well-dressed Iguanadon which can be found in Ashford Road at the junction of New Cut Road in Maidstone, donned amber and black balloons and Maidstone United’s club badge as the town’s football supporters celebrated victory in the fourth round of the FA Cup yesterday.

Having won 2-1 against Ipswich Town, the underdogs, who were the lowest-ranked side in the competition and four divisions below their rivals in the pyramid system and fans were jubilant at their team’s “unbelievable” performance.

Life-long fan Callum Glazier, from Maidstone, has followed the club since he was seven.

He said: “I’ve never seen anything like it in my life.

“They were so good. It was unbelievable until the very last moment.

“It was not until the last 60 seconds we started to think we were actually going to win.”

The team made cup history when they knocked out Championship side Ipswich Town as more than 4,472 fans travelled from Kent to Suffolk for the fourth round clash at Portman Road.

Earlier today the team missed out on facing a Premier League giant after being paired with Sheffield Wednesday or Coventry City in the last 16.

The Stones are the first side outside the top five leagues of English football to reach the FA Cup Fifth Round for 46 years.
