An Islander taking an afternoon stroll was shocked to see a 4x4 stuck fast in the water on Leysdown Beach.

Samantha de Bruyn, who lives in Warden Bay, was walking along the beach when she saw the vehicle go into the water to collect two jet skis.

The vehicle got so far in that it got stuck in the mud resulting in tractors and a JCB having to rescue it.

Samantha said: “There were no emergency service vehicles called – it was just the public that got involved as it caused a lot of interest.

“The 4x4 was almost half immersed in water and the tide was coming in while tractors were using large ropes to haul the vehicle out.”
