Two in court after raid on pirate DVD factory

TWO men appeared before a court today after Kent Police raided a pirate DVD factory in London, thought to be one of the biggest ever found to date in the UK.

John Lau, 45, of Upper Clapton Road, London E5, and Chee Chong Liew, of Romford Road, Stratford, London, are accused of conspiracy to defraud Walt Disney, 20th Century Fox, Warner Brothers and Columbia.

Both were remanded in custody by Brent magistrates to appear at Harrow Crown Court on February 9.

A third man who was arrested during the raid at premises in Burnt Oak, Edgeware on Wednesday (February 1) has been charged with two offences of selling goods that infringe copyright.

Zhen Rong Lin, 30, of Hathorne Close, Peckham, is due to appear before magistrates in Dartford today.

More then 100,000 copied DVDs, along with computers and DVD burners, printers and packaging were seized by police during the joint initiative with FACT, the Federation Against Copyright Theft.

The raid took place as a result of intelligence gathered from a large scale operation in the Medway Towns on Tuesday (January 31).
