A lorry driver has been killed today after two trucks smashed into each other on the M26.

Police were called to the incident on the Surrey-bound carriageway near Sevenoaks just before 9am.

The driver of one of the lorries - a white UK-registered MAN box van - suffered fatal injuries.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by South East Coast Ambulance Service paramedics.

The other lorry was a German-registered Volvo, also white. Nobody else was injured in the incident.

Both carriageways were closed at first causing long tailbacks before the Kent-bound carriageway was re-opened around 9.45am.

The slip road onto the M26 from the M20 has also now been reopened.

Officers from Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit are carrying out an investigation.

The cause of the crash has not been established.
