Vandals send burning car hurtling into tree

A CAR was set alight by vandals and had its accelerator wedged down before ending up in a tree.

Firefighters said the car must have flown through the air in the incident at about 2.30am on Wednesday in Saltbox Hill, Biggin Hill, near Bromley.

The windows of the car had been smashed and firefighters said it appeared the fire had been fuelled because it was burning so well.

Firefighter Martin Green said: "It could have been a lot worse if there had been someone in Saltbox Hill.

"It must have flown through the air because it was wedged in the tree.

"We can only assume they wedged the accelerator."
