Former boxing champion Gary Mason, who used to live in Walderslade, has died.

The 48-year-old was killed in a cycling accident in south London on Thursday morning.

Mason, pictured left, was crowned British heavyweight champion in 1989.

He fought 38 professional bouts between 1984 and 1994, but only lost once in his career - to Lennox Lewis.

He was pronounced dead at the scene after he was involved in a collision with a van on his bicycle in Wallington.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and bailed until March pending further inquiries.

The Metropolitan Police said the 43-year-old, who was driving a white Vauxhall "combi" van, had stopped at the scene.
