A 58-year-old woman accused of killing her husband has made her first appearance before a Crown Court judge.

Wadanhalugeder Chandrasekera, of Port Close, Bearsted, near Maidstone, spoke only to confirm her name via a TV link with Maidstone Crown Court and the prison where she is being held in custody.

She is accused of murdering Sarath Chandrasekera on October 23. He is believed to have suffered multiple injuries from an axe the previous day. He died in Maidstone Hospital.

Judge Warwick McKinnon remanded Chandrasekera until January 11 when she is expected to enter a plea to the charge.
