Windsurfer rescued by lifeboat

A 35-year-old male windsurfer was rescued by the Whitstable Lifeboat when he got into difficulties.

The man was blown offshore at Minster, Isle of Sheppey, on Wednesday afternoon.

The lifeboat was launched at 5.14pm after people spotted the man frantically waving for help.

The crew found the windsurfer about a mile off Warden Point.

Helmsman Dave Parry said: "He and his board were brought onboard the lifeboat. He was most relieved to see us.

"He had been waving a lot hoping someone would see him and he was cold but otherwise uninjured."

The windsurfer was landed ashore at Minster.
