A woman has died after being hit by a train at Rochester railway station.

A spokesman for operator Southeastern said she was struck by the 1.04pm Dover Priory to Victoria service on Wednesday.

Paramedics were called to the station but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The air ambulance was also despatched but was turned back en route.

The spokesman warned passengers to expect delays.

Medway Police said the incident was not being treated as suspicious.

The Southeastern spokesman said the alert was raised at 2.10pm.

Train services between Gillingham and Bromley South via Swanley were disrupted, said the spokesman.

The line was re-opened at 3.01pm
