The scene of the tragedy - Marden railway station

A WOMAN killed when she was struck by a train as it sped through a railway station last weekend has been named as 29-year-old Kaley Bethel.

Miss Bethel, who was single and unemployed, lived alone at The Cockpit, Marden, near Maidstone.

She was hit by a train as it travelled through Marden station at about 80 miles an hour on Friday. British Transport Police are not treating her death as suspicious. Miss Bethel had been filmed on the station's CCTV for several minutes before the incident and police are confident that no-one else was with her when the tragedy happened. An inquest will be held.

Shocked neighbours described her as a 'very kind' young woman who was fond of children.

One neighbour said: "She was very kind to us and we always got on well with her. She really liked children and was really good with them. My children were fond of her too. I don't know how I am going to tell them.

"When I heard that she had died, I couldn't believe it. I only saw her the day before."
