Woman injured in handbag snatch

A WOMAN was dragged to the ground in a struggle to keep hold of her handbag in a street attack.

The 52-year-old victim was in Millmead Road at Margate shortly after 5pm on Monday when she became uneasy and felt she was being followed by a man she saw on the other side of the road doing up his shoelaces.

She had a tight grip on her black handbag with its strap around her neck and shoulders and wrapped around her wrist. It contained more than £100 cash.

As she turned into Laleham Road she was approached by the man who tried to grab her bag. She held on until she was forced to the ground and dragged along into the kerb.

When the strap snapped he ran off with the bag towards Millmead Road. The woman was taken to the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate and treated for cuts and bruises to a leg and arm.

The attacker is said to be aged between 18 and 20 years old, 5ft 9in tall, slim with a shaven head. He wore a blue hooded top with white piping and dark jeans.

Anyone who witnessed the robbery should contact Det Con Kim Clemo at Margate police station on 01843 222 035.
