Woman van driver in horror crash

A YOUNG woman was seriously injured today when she was thrown through the windscreen of a Ford Transit van she was driving.

It happened just after 7am on the Maidstone bound carriageway of the A249 near the Kemsley junction, on the Sittingbourne side of the Kingsferry Bridge.

The 24-year-old woman, from Sheppey, is believed to have suffered serious head injuries. She was taken by ambulance to Medway Maritime Hospital.

The white van overturned several times and collided with the junction sign which then landed on the woman.

It is thought the accident happened when the van aquaplaned in the wet weather.

Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to call 01795 584175.
