Woman's terrifying ordeal at hands of knifeman

A FEMALE member of staff at a Kent newsagent was threatened with a knife when she was robbed in the store's car park.

The victim had just finished work at Martin's Newsagents in Swanley town centre when the incident happened.

A man armed with a knife approached her in the car park at the back of the shop and demanded she hand over money. A struggle followed and the woman fell to the ground.

The man - who was wearing a long coat and dark-coloured jeans - grabbed her bag and ran off.

The woman, who suffers from asthma, was not seriously hurt but did sustain scratches and bruises during the incident.

DC Matt Jones said: "This could have been much more serious because the woman carries her asthma medication in her handbag and if she is without it when she suffers an attack it can be very dangerous."

Anyone with information about this incident - which happened just after 6pm on Saturday - is urged to contact police on 01732 379217 or Kent Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
