MEMBERS of Young Farmers' clubs in Kent will be bringing more livestock than ever before to this year's county show at Detling on July 11,12 and 13.

Altogether about 500 YFC members will be showing 300 cattle and sheep, 24 pens of pigs and an assortment of 80 small animals from nine school clubs and four open clubs from across Kent.

Earlier this year, the school farm units received a large financial boost, each getting £1,200. Half came from the Kent County Agricultural Society and the rest from the South East Economic Development Agency.

This is the second year the agricultural society has given assistance to the school farm units which are under financial pressure. David May, chairman of the society's education and awards committee, said: "It is very pleasing the units are supporting the county show in great numbers."
