CHARLTON have swooped to sign Denmark Under-21 winger Martin Christensen on a four-year deal.

The 19-year-old moves to The Valley on a pre-contract agreement from his club Herfolge Boldklub having signed a four-year deal.

The Addicks have paid £250,000 down with a further £100,000 to follow depending on appearances.

"It’s going to be a big step up for him to make but he’s a good age and we feel he’ll progress quickly," said manager Alan Pardew.

Christensen could succeed fellow winger and countryman Dennis Rommedahl who has publicly declared that he will leave Charlton if they are relegated from the Premier League.

Meanwhile, the Addicks have allowed central defender Jonathan Fortune to return to Stoke on loan for the rest of the season.

Fortune was recalled to cover for the suspended Souleymane Diawara, plus injured pair Hermann Hreidarsson and Madjid Bougherra, and played in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Watford.
