Southampton 2 Charlton 3

Charlton may look doomed in the Championship but they secured their first win in eight matches with victory at Southampton on Saturday.

It was 1-1 at the break - but the Addicks came alive in the second half and secured the result thanks to excellent goals from Therry Racon and Nicky Bailey, despite a late scare when Bradley-Wright Phillips reduced the deficit.

The Addicks were ahead as early as the seventh minute when keeper Rob Elliott's punt upfield was flicked on by Tresor Kandol and teenager Jonjo Shelvey finished beyond Kelvin Davis for his first senior goal.

But the hosts were level in the 17th minute when David McGoldrick fired home after robbing Bailey of possession.

Charlton should have gone back in front in the 25th minute but Kandol's lazy penalty was saved by Davis after the striker had been fouled by Jan Paul Saeijs.

But the Addicks did regain the lead on the hour when Racon arrowed a stunning shot high into the net after Saeijs had blocked Kandol's initial effort and Bailey lashed in from close range to give the visitors some breathing space 21 minutes from time.

Substitute Wright-Phillips made it 3-2 on 84 minutes when he finished well from just inside the area but the Addicks deserved the points.
