KENT figure skating star John Hamer has added the Junior British Men's Championships to his growing list of titles.

Just a week after claiming the Scottish junior title at the Dumfries Ice Bowl, he returned to the same venue to lift the biggest title of his career so far.

Now the 18-year-old, from Wigmore, near Gillingham, is waiting to hear if he has been selected to represent Great Britain in the Youth Olympics next year. He said: "Going into the competition I was quietly confident but it was nice to actually win it. I came second last year so I knew I had a good chance."

Hamer was placed third after the short programme but then pulled out all the stops in the long programme to claim the title.

He added: "I felt the short programme went really well because I landed a couple of triples and a double axle, which was a kind of personal best for me. But I can only describe my long programme as excellent. I was really pleased with it."
