Blunt Bromley crash out

Bromley 0 AFC Hornchurch 1

A controversial penalty decided Bromley's fate as they were sent tumbling out of the FA Cup by Ryman League side AFC Hornchurch at Hayes Lane on Saturday.

The winner came on 20 minutes when Adam Everitt was harshly adjudged to have handled in the box despite a cross being smashed at him from just a couple of yards and his hands being by his sides. Mark Janney made no mistake from the spot.

The Lillywhites looked short up front - even more so without the departed Danny Hockton - and failed to create any clear-cut chances for themselves.

They played the final 15 minutes against 10 men without a recognised keeper after first-choice stopper Dale Brightly was dismissed for deliberately handling outside of his area.

It was deeply frustrating for the home side as Brightly's intervention prevented Nic McDonnell from having the simplest of tasks to level.

Despite the numerical advantage, Bromley failed to carve out any decent openings. The closest they came was when it was 11 against 11 as Brightly brilliantly kept out a Loui Fazakerly free-kick before McDonnell fired a bicycle kick over the bar.
