RAMSGATE boss Jim Ward has hailed the capture of former player Mark Munday as a "major signing".

The 34-year-old experienced midfielder is the fifth new player to arrive at Southwood as the Kent League champions prepare for their first ever season in the Ryman League.

Ward said: "Mark could prove to be a real talisman for us. He had done it all before and will be a real influence in the dressing room helping our younger players.

"He has got tremendous knowledge about the game at our level, and I see it a major boost and a superb signing.

Munday ended last season at Folkestone Invicta and has also had spells with Margate (twice) Gravesend and Northfleet, Dover (loan) and Herne Bay.

Ramsgate will start the new season with a trip to Burgess Hill on August 20.

The first home game will be against Tooting and Mitcham three days later.

They meet Dover at Crabble on Boxing Day, with the return clash at home on Easter Monday.
