Combe suffer derby defeat

Westcombe Park 7 Blackheath 13

Westcombe Park suffered a third straight National 2 defeat when they were beaten 13-7 on home soil by neighbours Blackheath.

Atrocious weather conditions meant Saturday’s derby clash was never going to be a classic and it was the visitors who adapted better.

Blackheath had the wind advantage in the opening half and took the lead with a penalty from Frankie Neale.

Eight minutes later Combe were caught out on the scrum and Ranako Daley was allowed to run over virtually unopposed with Neale converting.

Combe had struggled to get out of their own half in the first 40 minutes and soon after the re-start Newel extended the visitors' lead with another penalty.

The hosts got on the scoresheet when from a rolling maul Tom Hayman grounded and James Whittingham converted.
