ON CREST OF A WAVE: members of Kent's under-11 squad

KENT'S under-11 girl cricketers remain unbeaten this season after their fourth win in a row against county opposition.

Their lastest victory - by just 12 runs - was away to Surrey in a nerve-tingling finish at Cobham Cricket Club.

Kent scored 104 for five in their 25 overs against a talented Surrey bowling attack, with Emma Perry, from Lordswood, Chatham, top scoring with 20 not out, and Deveena Pithia, from Blean, near Canterbury, hitting 19, including four boundaries.

Good bowling, especially by Zoe Broster, from Harrietsham, near Maidstone, put a brake on Surrey's early run chase and Kent dismissed the home team for 92.

This win follows an 18-run victory over Middlesex at Sissinghurst on June 27. Kent also defeated Essex away at Woodford, on June 20 and the Isle of Wight in a home fixture at Shoreham on June 12.

The 18-girl squad, chosen from 40 who played in trials at Sutton Valence School earlier this year, is coached by David Sear, Kent cricket development officer.

The girls' next match is against Essex at Canterbury on Sunday.
