Cox's double strike sinks City

Gillingham 3 Coventry City 1

TWO goals from defender Ian Cox inside the first four minutes of the second half gave Gillingham victory over Coventry.

Cox scrambled home the ball from a Nicky Southall corner two minutes after the restart.

Cox and Southall combined again two minutes later when the former volleyed home the latter's free kick.

The first half had finished 1-1, with Gills taking the lead in the 15th minute when Coventry keeper Luke Steele let Darren Byfield's speculative 25-yard effort through his hands.

Byfield and Mamady Sidibe both missed chances to double Gills' lead before Dele Adebola headed Coventy level from Steve Staunton's 37th minute cross.

But Cox's double after the break earned Gillingham a vital win.
