Cricket club in 35-hour world record bid

CHESTFIELD are finalising plans for their attempt at the world cricket marathon at Grasmere Road next month.

The club are hoping to earn a place in the Guinness Book of Records, by playing 35 hours non-stop, starting at 8am on Saturday, September 8, and finishing at 7pm the following day.

They are also running coaching clinics for youngsters on the night before the attempt, with former Kent players Vince Wells, Chris Penn, Mark Dobson and Ben Trott, joined by former Leicestershire and Essex wicket-keeper Neil Burns.

Programmes priced £2.50 go on sale this week, with all proceeds going to Pilgrims Hospice.

A lucky number draw winner will have the choice of selecting an item of sporting memorabilia, from the following: an England football shirt signed by Gary Lineker and Glen Hoddle; a Liverpool shirt signed by Michael Owen; an Australian cricket shirt signed by Shane Warne; a Kent signed shirt, a Tim Henman signed shirt; a miniature cricket bat signed by Ashes winning side of 2005; two footballs signed by Glen Hoddle and Gary Lineker; an Allstars shirt signed by Neville Southall (worn in the Alan Ball Memorial Match); or a 1984 autographed Everton FA Cup winning team photo.

The event is being organised by Paul Jordan of Oakwood Homes, and programmes will be on sale at their branches in Herne Bay, Margate, Birchington and Cliftonville.

They can also be purchased at the Monument Public House in Whitstable, World of Hair in Tankerton. and Chestfield Cricket Club.
