Blackburn 1 Charlton 0

MANAGER Alan Curbishley shouldered much of the blame for Charlton’s second defeat in three days at Blackburn on Monday, but fired a warning to his players that no-one is assured of his place.

Curbishley, who was looking for an immediate response to Saturday’s first defeat in six games by Arsenal, left Ewood Park deeply disappointed by the 1-0 reverse.

He said: "I’m looking at myself and wondering whether I should have changed the side, or the formation, because with hindsight I could have gone to a 4-4-2 formation and put some fresh legs into midfield.

"I decided to stick to with the same side, apart from the injured Shaun Bartlett, though it back-fired because we had no sparkle at all. We just fizzled out.

"I can quite easily go back to a 4-4-2 formation. In fact I’ve said to the 11 today that I hope they don’t think the selection is cast in stone because it’s not. There were one or two performances I was unhappy with and those players will get told about it."

Striker Shaun Bartlett, who missed Monday’s match with a tight hamstring, should be fit to face Rochdale in Saturday’s FA Cup, third round tie at The Valley, as should fellow striker Francis Jeffers who underwent surgery for in-growing toe-nails.
