DEFENDER Leon Solomon will stay with Welling after agreeing a new one-year deal with player-manager Neil Smith.

Solomon had been the subject of much summer transfer talk but he will now form an integral part of Smith's squad.

The former Gillingham man could find himself playing centre-back after Smith also snapped up former Millwall and Bristol Rovers full-back Robbie Ryan.

The 30-year-old, who played in the 2004 FA Cup Final, made nearly 300 appearances during his professional career.

Smith said: "It's a great signing for us because Robbie has got great experience and the younger players will learn from him.

"I think there is still a lot more to come from Leon, I want him to get more out of him and get him into the Football League."

The Wings boss also agreed terms with Jamie Turner but is still searching for a second keeper to add to his squad.

Defender Steve Perkins and midfielder Martin Carthy have left the club due to work commitments while Mark Goodfellow and Sam Tucknott have also departed and Paul Hyde has linked up with Kent League Hythe Town.
