KENT javelin thrower Christine Lawrence has been called up to throw for England on Sunday.

The 20-year-old from Aycliffe, near Dover, who retained her Kent county title at Ashford at the weekend, will throw against competitors representing Great Britain & Northern Ireland Juniors, British Students, Scotland, Wales and the hosts, Loughborough University.

The former Astor College pupil is currently studying at Brunel University in Middlesex, and her delighted mum Julie said: "We are so thrilled at the news because she has worked so hard to achieve this international recognition."

Christine is currently ranked No 1 in England, and 5th in Great Britain, for the women’s javelin. Her personal best is 47.69metres.
