FA Cup first qualifying round preview

TONBRIDGE Angels have "nothing to fear" ahead of Saturday's FA Cup first qualifying round tie at Hastings United, according to player-boss Tony Dolby.

Two wins and six goals in the space of three days means the Angels are unbeaten this season and Dolby is looking to extend the lucrative Cup run as far as possible.

He said: "I’ve spoken to a few people about Hastings but we’ve got nothing to fear and teams should worry about us.

"We’re a force, no doubt about it. We’ve got a strong side, look solid in defence and dangerous going forward."

Dover Athletic make a rapid cup return to Bashley on Saturday, just seven days after winning their Ryman League Division 1 encounter 2-0.

Whites' current "sick list" reads as follows: Darren Braithwaite (groin), Tommy Tyne (thigh), Craig Wilkins (calf), Shane Hamshare (ankle), Dean Readings (ankle) and Lee Spiller (virus), but manager Clive Walker is hoping three or four will be fit for the cup game.

One change is certain, however, as Nicky Humphrey serves a one-match ban.

Walker would prefer a result on Saturday rather than lining up for a replay on Tuesday to give his squad 10 days to recover ahead of the top-of-the-table clash against Cray at Crabble on September 20.

Walker said: "It would be handy if it turns out that way, because it would provide a chance for all the knocks to clear up before we play Cray."

Ashford Town hope to put a run of disappointing league results behind them when they play host to Windsor and Eton on Saturday.

Town’s only victory so far this season has come in the cup when they disposed of Slade Green, but the visitors from the division above will be a tougher nut to crack.

They will be hoping to emulate the exploits of the 1992/3 Town side who had three meetings with Windsor & Eton, beating them in the cup after a replay and then putting them out of the FA Trophy the following season.

Bromley are waiting for news on the fitness of Colin Luckett and Adam Locke ahead of Saturday's FA Cup trip to Combined Counties League side Bedfont.

The pair picked up injuries in pre-season but boss George Wakeling is hoping they can prove their fitness to bolster their Cup hopes.

Wakeling said: "It’s a massive game for all non-league clubs because it’s a chance to put your club on the map. We’ve got our fingers crossed with Luckett and Locke but if they don’t make it we’ll just have to weather the storm."

Folkestone Invicta will be hoping for some cup respite when they host Ryman League Division 2 side Egham Town on Saturday.

Neil Cugley's team are without a win from their opening five Ryman League Premier Division matches and currently lie 21st in the table.

Margate start their FA Cup campaign at home against Wessex League Division 1 side Cowes Sports on Saturday.

Ramsgate face a tough encounter at Croydon Athletic, the club one place below them in the Ryman League Division 1 table.

Jim Ward's men will be hoping for a win to help get over the disappointment over going out of the Ryman League Cup at the hands of Newport IOW on Tuesday.

Cray Wanderers, who are currently leading the way in Ryman League Division 1, entertain Kingstonian in what promises to be a tight game.

And Chatham Town, who are unbeaten in Southern League Division 1 East so far this season, host Leatherhead.
