Portsmouth 0 Charlton Athletic 1

AMADY FAYE'S first goal for Charlton secured a long-awaited first away win of the season for Charlton at Fratton Park on Saturday.

The midfielder struck in the 80th minute against his old club when he lofted the ball over the head of goalkeeper David James after Bryan Hughes had headed the ball on after Glen Johnson failed to clear.

Victory was no more than Charlton deserved after battling and scraping throughout and creating the better chances.

Dennis Rommedahl should have given them a 73rd minute lead but with the goal at his mercy hesitated and allowed Sol Campbell to clear.

Charlton's last away win in the Premiership was coincidentally at Portsmouth in October, 2005.It was Pompey's first defeat at Fratton Park for nearly four months.
