Gills near deal for defender

COOPER: Wants defensive cover
COOPER: Wants defensive cover

GILLINGHAM have moved one step closer to securing the services of Trinidad & Tobago defender Brent Sancho.

Manager Neale Cooper said: "We've sent away for his work permit and he'll be back at the club this week."

Cooper is desperate for cover at the back and he sees Sancho as an ideal signing.

The 28-year-old made substitute appearances for Gills in pre-season against Barnet and Eastbourne and produced confident performances.

Sancho spent a week at Kilmarnock and also came close to signing terms with Brighton.
