Gillingham reserves picked up their first win of the season after securing a 3-2 victory over Crystal Palace in the Combination League at Hayes Lane on Tuesday.

Palace took the lead after just four minutes when Simon Thomas headed home.

The Gills pulled level on 15 minutes when Andy Pugh was brought down inside the area by Palace goalkeeper Darryl Flahavan.

Luis Cumbers stepped up and fired home the resulting penalty.

Palace got back in front after 40 minutes when an initial shot from Rhoys Wiggins was saved by Alan Julian, with Leandre Griffit slotting home the rebound.

In the second half, Julian kept Gillingham in the game with two good saves before Cumbers pulled them level with his second goal of the game on 85 minutes.

He sprinted onto a long ball over the defence before firing past Flahavan.

Pugh then grabbed the winner when he capitalised on a poor back pass and broke clear of the Palace defence before chipping the ball over Flahavan.

Gillingham: Julian, Payne, Essam, Walder, Daniel, Berry (Carlos 45mins), Rooney, Lewis, Jarrett, Pugh, Cumbers. Subs not used: Thomas, Bartrum, Haber, Kiely.
