KENT'S Barry Hawkins crashed out of the snooker Masters championship at the first hurdle on Sunday after losing 6-2 to Welshman Ryan Day.

Day raced into a 3-0 lead allowing Hawkins to amass just 57 points in the best of 11 frames match and for the right to meet Peter Ebdon in the last 16.

Hawkins, form Dartford, pulled one back winning a tight frame 58-41 but it was a brief respite as Day surged back thanks to a 113 break without reply.

Hawkins did regain his composure in the Wembley Arena to take the fifth frame (91-50) but Day saw off the challenge with further breaks of 55 and 120.
