JIMMY FLOYD HASSELBAINK promised Charlton supporters that he has no intention of playing out time after signing a one-year contract at The Valley.

The 34-year-old former Holland international, who became head coach Iain Dowie’s first major signing, said: "I still have the hunger and the desire to do well. Nothing has changed in that respect.

"I’ve got at least another two years at the highest level in me. I’m just like a little boy who’s getting a bit of candy."

Hasselbaink boasts 125 goals in 263 Premier League appearances with Leeds, Chelsea and Middlesbrough.

Dowie said: "What struck me, first and foremost when I met Jimmy was his hunger for the game. What’s more he was keen to learn how ambitious everyone was.

"He will bring leadership to the club and it goes without saying that he is a massive signing. He’s a winner who still wants to achieve."
