Ice men confident of treble glory

Brackenll Hornets v Invicta Dynamos

THE Invicta Dynamos hope their three-pronged assault on the ice-hockey world sticks it to opponents like the sharp edges of Neptune’s trident.

By oozing confidence and going all out for league, cup and play-off glory the aim is to steamroller all in their path to achieve this unprecedented treble.

Lingering disappointment from last season, when they just failed to add the play-off trophy to their English National Hockey League (South) title, has given the Dynamos extra mettle this campaign.

Captain Kev Lake said: "We were really down when we lost to Sheffield and want to make amends this year. We set ourselves very high standards at the beginning of the season and we’re seeing them through, but now comes the tricky part where we must make sure we don’t slip up.

"Last year we lost once in the league. This year we want to go unbeaten, as that would be a real achievement. The way we’re playing at the moment I can’t see anyone beating us. We’re playing confidently, yet the key is we still take nothing for granted."

Lake believes player-coach Kev Parrish is a major reason for the visible improvement.

He said: "He is without doubt one of the best coaches I’ve worked with. Being mates can be taken to a certain point, but once we’re on the ice he commands the respect of the players and his record speaks for itself.

"He has brought in Canadian imports Mike Allaby and Alex Shaw and they are amazing players, along with young Andy Smith. The speed which they play the game helps the whole team improve."

Enjoying their hockey is another factor, in front of the ‘best fans in the league’.

"The crowds seem to be getting bigger each week and that’s great. It reminds me of the old Medway Bears days. I used to be stick boy back then and all the youngsters wanted to play for the top team. I think we’ve recreated that atmosphere now.

"Our fans are excellent, the best fans in the league. Other teams say to us how lucky we are to skate out to such a reception and we couldn’t agree more."

Third-place Streatham Redskins were rolled over 7-1 on Sunday.

This weekend the Dynamos have just one game, at Bracknell Hornets on Saturday.
