KENT have revealed that West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo is the man they hope to bring to St Lawrence next month.

The 22-year-old from Trinidad has agreed terms on a deal through to the end of the season and has received the blessing of the West Indies Cricket Board and Brian Lara, their Test captain and Bravo’s manager.

He has signed his deal and Kent are awaiting his international clearance, but will hold fire with registering Bravo as their player until the West Indies complete their Test series against India on June 30.

Kent are content to play a waiting game in registering the player because of a change in ECB regulations this season.

Should Kent registered Bravo now and the player picked up an injury in one of the final two Tests, then the county would be unable to bring in a replacement in Bravo’s place

Bravo boasts a highest Test score of 113 and had hit two centuries in his 14 Tests to date. He has also picked up 32 Test wickets at an average of 35.71 and had played in 43 One-Day Internationals.

Kent skipper Rob Key, the man who opted for Bravo, said: “With the amount of international cricket around on the calendar nowadays it's almost impossible to find an internationally rated player who is available for a considerable amount of time.

“But Dwayne has been one of the West Indies’ unsung heroes for a couple of years now and after Lara has become one of the first names down on their team sheet.

“We’re looking to replace an all-rounder with an all-rounder and I’m confident he can bring some of that international experience into our side both on and off the field.”

Although not named with Hall in South Africa’s Test squad to take on Sri Lanka from mid-July, Justin Kemp is wanted home for a training camp and Kent were always under the impression that neither would return thereafter.

Whether Kent go into the market for a second overseas locum remains uncertain however, as they may opt instead to give youth a chance by bringing youngsters Neil Dexter or Joe Denly into their four-day squad.
