Kent select from a virtually full-strength squad ahead of Wednesday’s start to their LV County Championship campaign when they take on Nottinghamshire in Canterbury.

Overseas star Yasir Arafat flew in from Rawalpindi on Monday evening having been overlooked for his country’s latest one-day international squad, ensuring he will be available to the county this week and for much of the summer.

New signing Azhar Mahmood, the former Surrey and Pakistan all-rounder, also stands by for his club debut having finished his short stint playing in the Indian Cricket League.

With Kolpak all-rounder Ryan McLaren already in tow, skipper Rob Key has almost a full compliment of players from which to select.

The only absentees being Amjad Khan, who has a slight hamstring strain, and Justin Kemp, who has yet to lodge a second appeal to the ECB over his playing registration.

Otherwise Simon Cook, Neil Dexter and Robbie Joseph are the ones to miss out.

Kent team to take on Nottinghamshire: Rob Key, Joe Denly, Martin van Jaarsveld, Matthew Walker, Darren Stevens, Geraint Jones, James Tredwell, Ryan McLaren, Azhar Mahmood, Yasir Arafat, Martin Saggers. 12th man: Matt Coles.
