GILLINGHAM have signed Barnsley midfielder Dale Tonge on a month's loan. The 21-year-old will go straight into Saturday's squad for the long trip to Carlisle.

Gills manager Ronnie Jepson has been chasing fresh talent for his side for some time and, with several midfielders likely to miss Saturday's game, the arrival is much needed.

Captain Michael Flynn is struggling with a rib injury, fellow midfielder Andrew Crofts is away on international duty and winger Matt Jarvis is fighting to shrug off a groin injury.

Jepson said: "I have seen Tonge play on a number of occasions and I think the supporters will like what they see."

Tonge, who has been limited to just eight appearances for Barnsley this season, was looking forward to getting games under his belt.

He said: "Hopefully I can show what I can do. I have spoke to a few people and they have had nothing but good things to say about the club. That is why I knew it was a good decision to come."
