HOT-HEADED: Francis Jeffers had to be withdrawn after 26 minutes

Brentford 0 Charlton 0

A PENALTY miss, some inspired goalkeeping and a hot-headed striker summed up Charlton’s goalless draw at Brentford on Saturday.

The League 1 side frustrated their Premiership opponents all afternoon, while Francis Jeffers was pulled off after just 26 minutes following one too many tussles with Bees centre back Sam Sodje in a game that was far more physical than many expected.

For a second game in a row the Addicks won a penalty, but this time Jason Euell - a reported target for Birmingham City - was thwarted by the excellent Ademola Bankole.

On the plus side was the debut performance of defensive midfielder Alexei Smertin and the return from injury of left-back Hermann Hreidarsson.

Charlton: Kiely, Young (Kishishev 66), Fortune, Spector (Perry 46), Powell (Hreidarsson 46), Ambrose (Sam 74), Holland (Smertin 46), Hughes (Euell 46), Thomas (Rommedahl 46), Jeffers (Murphy 26), Johansson (Bent 23). Subs Not Used: Masters.
